the common, important debate...
18? 16? 21?Isn’t turning 18 and starting to drive the most exciting experience to look forward to for us students in UAE?
Across the world, there are several countries in which the legal driving age is 16, and I believe that should be changed to 18 like in the UAE. 16-year-old drivers are too young and inexperienced to enter the risky world of driving, causing hundreds of thousands of accidents per year. The simple precaution of waiting for two additional years could save so many innocent lives, so isn’t it very much worth the wait? Teens’ brain remains undeveloped at the tender age of sixteen, meaning they could take part in careless actions. More straightforwardly, they may not think before they act, because they don’t have enough experience yet. They are too young to make real world decisions and be involved with the responsibilities that come with the keys to a sleek new car.
Although some 16-year-olds are good drivers, many just aren’t the same - in fact, just the opposite. They just want to drive fast or “burn rubber”. There are a lot of responsibilities in operating a motor vehicle, and, to me, sixteen just seems too young to be driving in this big crazy world we live in. |
